For the first 5 weeks after they hatch, you only need to provide quail chicks with a warm brooder, soft bedding, plenty of food and water, and isolation from other animals (except for the mother hen if she\u2019s available).<\/span><\/p>\n

You\u2019ll also need a heat lamp<\/strong> and high-protein<\/strong> quail feed while they\u2019re growing their feathers. When they get older, give them more space with a larger brooder.<\/span><\/p>\n

Generally, quails don\u2019t take long to mature and <\/span>reach full size<\/strong>. They reach maturity and start laying eggs at approximately <\/span>7 weeks old<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n

1. Assembling a Brooder<\/h3>\n

The brooder should be clean, sturdy, warm, and safe, free of pests. A cardboard box<\/strong> might be used as a brooder for quail eggs.<\/span><\/p>\n

A brooder should be kept in a warm, safe, predator-free<\/strong> area. For added protection, place the brooder inside<\/strong> a well-ventilated shed or barn.<\/span><\/p>\n

Keep the brooder at a constant 100 degrees Fahrenheit<\/strong> and make sure the chicks always have access to a heat bulb<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Reduce the temperature by 5 degrees<\/strong> Fahrenheit per week until it\u2019s at room temperature. Keep an eye on how the chicks are doing as you lower the temperature.<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s too hot<\/em> if the chicks are <\/span>moving<\/b>\u00a0away<\/strong> from the heat source. On the other hand, if they huddle<\/strong> in the center of the heat source, the temperature is too low<\/em>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Add bedding material<\/strong> like wood shavings to keep quail chicks comfortable. We recommend avoiding newspaper and paper towels, as these aren\u2019t very absorbent.<\/span><\/p>\n

The frequency of cleanings required for your brooder will depend on the number and age of your chicks. <\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s important to keep your brooder clean, as quail chicks are susceptible to illnesses<\/strong> spread by droppings.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Feeding<\/h3>\n

One of the key tasks for caring for quail chicks is feeding them a nutritious diet<\/strong>, using chick starting feed. <\/span><\/p>\n

Feed your chick\u2019s chick starter for 6-8 weeks<\/strong> to achieve the best possible results. Protein levels<\/strong> in this type of food are often higher than what\u2019s found in other feeds.<\/span><\/p>\n

3. Water<\/h3>\n

Make sure your hens have access to plenty of clean water<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Change the water daily or as needed to avoid illness. If you notice debris such as food, droppings, urine, dirt, bedding, etc, it\u2019s time to clean and replace the water.<\/span><\/p>\n

Stones or pebbles in a water bowl make for a shallower container. A water bowl that is too deep<\/em> could lead to drowning.<\/span><\/p>\n

4. Keeping Hens and Chicks Together<\/h3>\n

Keep hens and their chicks together, if possible. The mother will look after her chicks, and this will also reduce stress.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

It would be best to leave a mother hen with the eggs initially to keep them warm <\/strong>and incubate them naturally. <\/span><\/p>\n

Once they have hatched the hen will look after her young, defend them, and feed them<\/strong>. <\/span><\/p>\n

If you plan to raise chicks alongside hens or mother quails, you can begin separating them at around 3 weeks<\/strong> if needed.<\/span><\/p>\n

5. Space<\/b><\/h3>\n

Chicks require additional space as they grow up. You may need to change your brooder<\/strong> or cage as your chicks get older.<\/span><\/p>\n

They will also need adequate room to roam outdoors<\/em> to get access to bugs, grass, and sunlight.<\/p>\n

6. Bathing<\/b><\/h3>\n

Give your quail chicks a sand bath<\/strong> to enjoy. Chicks will begin bathing in dust shortly, and they\u2019ll love it. <\/span><\/p>\n
